Two Legged Plant Stand
Our house needed a stand for a wide, lopsided, old plant that’s continually losing leaves. A real thoroughbred of flora. Having seen a minimal little side table online I found the jumping off point. Lovely simplicity. 4 boards attached to each other at 90 degree angles all offset. No need for precise joinery to keep it all flush, always an entry in the pro column.
Changing the two solid “legs” from the inspiration piece to “legs” of vertical slats lightens the design. Additionally, it ties it to the aquarium stand in the same room. The two points of contact with the floor make the piece feel unstable. I like this. Leaning into the piece’s precariousness the wide “leg” is pushed back enhancing the instability. Put a big heavy plant on top and it feels like it will fall over. It doesn’t.
- Red Oak
- Two legs
- Slats
- Looks unstable
- Holds approximately one plant
