The Bird Lamp

Trusses And Triangles

One Hundred Foot Line is a sculpture by Roxy Paine. The kids always called it the rat tail. Me too. It’s displayed on Nepean Point, an area behind the National Art Gallery, in Ottawa. If it's witch's tit cold see it from the cafeteria. So tall, so thin, so shiny. One day in the workshop I tried cutting and glueing a dowel at odd angles tapering down to thin point resembling this sculpture. I did poor job. It looked like someone who's never seen a stick a make one from 2X4s using only an audio description of a stick as a guide. I tried again and again. Still brown and sticky. Oh goody! A pile of homemade sticks stacked in a corner. Maybe I could make even more sticks and attach them together to make a coat rack. Nah, I’ll make a floor lamp that kinda looks like a bird. Or an electric chair. Burn the sticks.
